British independant films : Slumdog Millionaire + The King's Speech

Independent British films such as 'The King's Speech and more low budget film such as 'The Slum dog Millionaire' that have been extremely successful despite being by independent, both have claimed a range of awards including 'best film'. Films such as these are good examples of how British independent films can be quite successful movies despite the low budget which is encouragement to movie makers alike. 'Slum Dog Millionaire' for example was merely planned as a 'straight to DVD' release however it claimed much more getting into cinemas and claiming a range of awards. I believe this shows that just because Hollywood films have a bigger budget etc there is still hope for the small and independent movies like our own through good marketing/distribution can be key but also a good script and director are needed.
